Uncle Alistair the Adventurer

Created by adriana 6 years ago

Growing up my Uncle Alistair (he was always called this by my Mum, Dad, Auntie Eleanor and Wee Gran) was portrayed as an adventurous enigmatic figure.

There were many stories of high sea adventures and he lived the USA which seems very glamorous when you grow up near Greenock!

He visited Scotland a number of times when I was growing up and lived up to the legend by being larger than life and charismatic. I remember going to his wedding to my Aunt Di when I was about 11 - although I sulked most of the day because I had to wear a borrowed dress from my cousin Janice. I am sure this did not ruin his day though!

In 1999 Glenn and I went to visit my Uncle Alistair, Aunt Di and cousin Robbie in Florida. My Uncle Alistair was amazing. He came to find us when we got lost on a bike ride, lent us a big noisy van that we loved to drive around in and lent us his cabin in Lake Placid. He was SO generous.

In the last few years I have enjoyed spending more time with my Aunt Di now that she lives in the UK. I love hearing her stories of their sailing exploits. I see that the adventurous spirit lives on in Robbie.

So Happy 70th to an original!

Love, Adriana (Glenn, Perrin and Indio)
